Great Ocean Road

Publié: 14.10.2024

3.10 - 7.10

3.10 - In the morning at the campsite, we were greeted warmly by a kangaroo. First, we drove to Portland, where we traveled along the coast hunting for highlights. In the afternoon, we reached Warrnambool. We wanted to go for a swim here, but it turned out to be too cold.

4.10 - Today was the day for the most famous part of the Great Ocean Road. We visited the beautiful Childers Cove, London Bridge, the 12 Apostles, and many other lookouts. On this stretch, we weren’t alone anymore; we encountered many tourists and tours. Our campsite was in the Great Otway National Park without tourists. This place was beautiful—remote, right by the sea in the woods.

5.10 - Today, we continued along the Great Ocean Road and visited a waterfall. Our destination was the Kennet River campsite. Here, there is a well-known trail along the river where you can see “good” wild koalas.

6.10 - Today, several waterfalls were on the agenda. Unfortunately, we only managed to see one, as on the way to the second, Viviane once again twisted her ankle. The first waterfall, lower Kalimna Falls, was worth it, as we could even walk behind it. We spent the afternoon cooling the foot, visited the visitor center in Lorne, and marveled at the Memorial Arch of the Great Ocean Road. Additionally, we visited the lighthouse at Aireys Inlet. One last time, we camped in the national park, including a campfire for the first time.

7.10 - For the first time, we had to prepare our breakfast and coffee in the rain. Afterwards, we drove along the coast through various villages. We liked Torquay the most, as we could observe surfers from a distance and the waves looked fantastic. We also liked the village because the atmosphere and proximity to the sea were simply wonderful. Torquay is the surfing capital of Australia, which you can feel since many well-known surf brands originated here and are still very present. 🏄🏼‍♀️ After that, it was off to Melbourne and pack the bags - the weather was on our side.
