Mexican food, Intrepid and rooftop party

Publié: 10.07.2016

We started the day with food again, this time Mexican. We had chicken with rice, guacamole, tortillas, flatbread, salsa, and grilled cactus, with portions larger than expected. And the taste was really good, even though cactus is a bit unusual. However, I think it's a very interesting combination of flavors, as it starts with a relatively neutral taste, with soft pieces in a gel-oil-like juice, and as you chew the cactus, a slight acidity pops up before the spiciness dominates in the end.

But enough about the food, we want to see some of the city. After some back and forth, due to the weather, we decided to visit the Intrepid. It is an old American aircraft carrier that now serves as a museum at the western docks on the Hudson River. The museum also includes a submarine and a space tent. Unfortunately, there was a lot of queuing involved here as well, and as often happens in NYC, the crowds were just rushed through. Afterwards, we had to hurry back to the apartment to freshen up a bit because we were lucky enough to be invited by Vera to a rooftop party in her penthouse apartment. Vera is an old friend of Nick's from Germany, whom he hasn't seen in about 10 years. She has been living in Manhattan for about a year now, just a few blocks away from the Empire State Building, and by chance she found out that we were in the city. The party was amazing! We were blown away by this amazing apartment with a large rooftop outdoor area and the spectacular view. We had a wonderful time with many nice people until the early hours of the morning. So far, the absolute highlight of our stay. A big thank you once again to Vera! :)
