Hola,
Finally we are on the road again. The first two days go by so quickly. After a strenuous overflight - which was carried out by Edelweiss - we arrived in Cancun happily and on time. Edelweiss has been the best airline in terms of service so far. Delicious lunch, all you can drink, 4 snacks (crackers, ice cream, pretzel rolls and real Appenzeller) and an evening meal made the flight positive. The selection of films was also outstanding.
The flight times 9:40 a.m. to 6 p.m. (Mexico local time) were optimal. So we didn't suffer any jet lag.
However, once we got to Mexico, things got stressful. Because the mentality - we do everything slowly - really slowly - led to long waiting times at the border control (over an hour). According to the embassy there should be an E scan - there wasn't. During the manual check and the stamp, the length of stay was also asked, but no tourist card was handed out. When asked, they said there were no more. Required according to the embassy. Some airports should probably do it as a pilot project without such a card. Let's let ourselves be surprised when we leave oO
The taxi ride booked via booking.com was uncomplicated and pleasant. Just getting to our booked company turned out to be more difficult than expected. Hordes of vendors barely let you pass ;)
Worse than going to a bazaar.
Our accommodation is in downtown Cancun. Quite simple. But hey, that's enough. And we have to pay attention to money :D
20 kilometers later we are now sitting in our room at 7 p.m. exhausted and with sore muscles.
Today we started walk number 1. Were in the port - where we will probably take the ferry for the next few days and go to Isla Mujeres.
We continued to walk through 🐊 contaminated beaches - that's what the signs said. But apart from a few lizards we couldn't see anything.
Went to the first beaches and slowed down around midday in a sunny and overwhelming 30 degrees.
After the walk, we took the Chickenbus - fully overcrowded buses - back towards downtown. Luckily our chicken bus was empty. In the direction of the hotel zone, however, they were extremely overcrowded. We'll be going there in the next few days ;)
On the way back we stocked up for tomorrow. We ate a few tacos ourselves and realized that amarilla tacos weren't really our cup of tea.
After a short break we went to the Plaza de Americas. This is not quite a kilometer away. Take a look at the pictures. The image from Google Maps with the “island” is simply completely built up with a huge shopping center. Mega awesome piece!!!
Treated yourself to a quick snack and now freshen up and go to bed. Tomorrow the alarm goes off at 4:30. Departure for Chichen Itza 6.10 ❤️
A little conclusion from the two days
Mexicans are shorter than me
Are nice and say hello often
Are ongoing dealers. They must have sold sunglasses in Malle before. Really extreme. Do the same among your compatriots. :D
The beach/beaches are full of this kind of stuff - at least outside the hotel zone. And there are sandbags in and around the water everywhere. For a beach holiday I would rather save the flight time and stay in Europe or North Africa or Turkey etc.
The bus driver drove quickly and was able to multitask. Using a cell phone, counting money, etc.
But you get used to the system quite quickly, so that as a pedestrian you are not at risk from road traffic. All one-way streets. So if you're not traveling in one direction at the intersection, you can go over. Therefore there are no pedestrian lights.
Dollars are accepted everywhere!
Overall, everything was pretty relaxed. It continues tomorrow!
Hasta manana
Freddy
