Still in Cartagena, I decided to join Benni on his journey to the west coast. This departamento called 'El Choco', which is mainly inhabited by Afro-Colombians, is one of the rainiest regions on Earth and can only be reached by plane or boat. We decided to take the boat, as it is currently humpback whale season and there is a real chance of seeing them.
Therefore, on August 12th, I flew from Cartagena to Cali, which is normally a 3-hour affair. However, I missed my connecting flight and had to wait 6 hours in Bogotá, which didn't bother me too much (I played tennis).
After spending the night in Cali, I took the bus to Buenaventura, where I booked a spot on a (rather small) cargo ship that will sail to Bahia Solano tomorrow, August 14th. This trip will take approximately 18-24 hours, depending on the weather. We are very excited about this region, which is said to be less developed for tourism. However, I don't know if there is Wi-Fi there, so there may be several days of partial or total radio silence. Don't worry!
Sending you many kisses,
Your Felix
