A short chapter of my blog. The fact is that homosexuality is not punishable by law in Indonesia. However, the Indonesian police often arrest gay men on the charge of engaging in pornography. Because pornography is strictly prohibited. In addition, websites that include the words gay and queer in the URL cannot be accessed. Instead, a page of the Indonesian government appears, which refers to a positive approach to the Internet. I call it censorship of LGBTI media portals. The mutti was also a little more cautious there, which really annoyed me in the end. But you never know. This does not mean that I did not talk about my husband and my relationship with Indonesians. Just not with everyone. When asked if I have a girlfriend, I always smiled politely. Then the topic was off the table. Yogjakarta presented itself to me as a very open city and Bali is also rather relaxed due to the strong tourism. Also, in its original form, Hinduism does not prohibit homosexuality.
In general, I have neither been harassed nor confronted. Those who are a little cautious and careful when traveling there will experience a wonderful country.
In this sense: Indonesia is changing a lot and society is becoming more open. It just needs a little more time.
Have Fun and Be Proud!
Yours, Jan/Mutti
