Day 4 - Departure from Kerkini, visit to Philippi, through Kavala to Thassos and to the final destination Aliki

Publié: 07.07.2020

After a good night's sleep, we had a hearty breakfast. Then we got ready, packed up, and loaded the car.

After a heartfelt farewell, we headed to Philippi via Serres and Drama. Here, we visited the ancient excavations and took some photos. This is where Apostle Paul was held captive, among other things.

We spent some time here and took numerous pictures, as always.

It was nice to see that compared to 2018, a lot has happened and work is still actively being done.

You can find more information about the ancient cities and the oldest Christian community in Europe here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philippi and here: https://www.gtp.gr/TDirectoryDetails.asp?id=15336

From there, we drove through Kavala (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kavala) as usual, passing under the Roman aqueduct, and continuing towards Keramoti.

Once we arrived there, we bought tickets for the ferry to the island of Thassos.

On the ferry, we admired the flying skills of the seagulls and looked forward to our favorite island.

Upon arrival in Thassos, we drove counterclockwise from Limenas to Aliki, where we stayed at our next accommodation.

It was nice to hear from my daughter when we arrived in Thassos: finally home 💪 Yess, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

In Aliki, we met with the landlady, had a Greek coffee, and settled in.

We got the essentials for survival from the mini market (which lives up to its name) and a Pita Souvlaki and Pita Souzukakia from the snack bar next door, which were then enjoyed with a glass (or more) of Retsina.

After that, we relaxed and enjoyed the evening.
