From Welwitschia Drive, we go to the coast and then north along the Skeleton Coast. It is known for many ships being stranded due to ocean currents, and therefore some wrecks can still be seen today. Along the coast is also Cape Cross, a large seal colony that we visit. It stinks terribly there and the seals are just everywhere, so we can't even go on the round trip. One of them even barks at Flo - we don't dare to go back on the path and prefer to climb over the railing somewhere else before running into her again 😅
The Skeleton Coast has many facets: from extremely light to almost black sand, sometimes hilly, then completely flat. In the end (only for us, as we then drive inland to the next campsite), suddenly high, orange dunes are visible. From the road to the next camp, we watch as the sun goes lower and lower, and the mountains around us are bathed in beautiful red and orange. A wonderful atmosphere! We are also happy about the sun, as we have seen clouds in the sky almost the entire coast.
Arriving at the campsite, we enjoy the sunset, have a snack, and watch a little bit of Blacklist in our 'living room' (= the back seat of the car). Great day.
