Day 22: Eighty Mile Beach

Publié: 04.10.2018

Phew, we woke up at 6 am today. Just like Elija, Samuel couldn't sleep anymore. It didn't take long before Maxima was wide awake too. We pack up and march to the beach. I think the entire campsite is still fast asleep except for us. Of course, we brought the fishing gear again. That's Samuel's favorite activity at the moment. Maxima and I collect some seashells. Elija is sleeping in the carrier. We really like the morning atmosphere at Eighty Mile Beach. The sea has receded further and gleams turquoise in the distance.

Maxima is already nervous about whether her friend Lippy is finally awake when we return to the site. Luckily, she is, and Maxima is eagerly awaited. Those two have found each other. I chat with Lippy's mom. The four-member family is from Brisbane and is traveling around Australia in a caravan. They've been on the road since September 2017, and their journey will last until March 2019. 1.5 years - truly enviable! Lippy's older brother is homeschooled by his mom.

We have brunch outside - unfortunately, with thousands of flies today - and the kids play with the dolls. Sadly, today we have to say goodbye once again. Lippy's family is heading to Port Hedland. Despite the language barrier, Maxima is very sad that her new friend has to go again. Who knows, maybe we'll meet again. The planned route is similar.

We update our blog, do laundry, and cook pancakes. We fill up the kiddie pool, and the kids have their fun. In the late afternoon, we go back to the beach. We don't have to walk as far now, and there are more waves than in the morning. Samuel hopes to catch a fish, but unfortunately, it doesn't work out. The water is super warm, and after some initial hesitation, Maxima also ventures into the sea today. Just like yesterday, the sunset is magnificent again. A wonderful place to come back to! We play and frolic in the sand, and a shower is urgently needed after we return to the site. Samuel still calls Gloria, and after dinner (Frankfurters), the adults are completely exhausted and fall into bed. Even though he's very tired, Elija can't fall asleep. I suspect it's too warm for him. It's always a bit warmer or colder above the driver's cabin than in the rest of the motorhome. But after a while, he also manages to reach dreamland.
