Je ne me souviens pas m'être rendu compte avec horreur au départ que les batteries du vélo électrique n'avaient pas été chargées. Je suis pourtant sûr qu'après les avoir branchées, j'ai vérifié si elles se chargeaient vraiment. De nombreuses fois, j'ai contrôlé le processus de charge avant de dormir, et cela n'avait jamais échoué. Mais aujourd'hui, quand j'avais prévu une randonnée de 130 km, il n'y avait juste une capacité pour 33 kilomètres. Cela ne suffit même pas pour aller à Suwalki, donc le reste de la planification d'hier.

Il est difficile de donner un bon conseil ici, car sans assistance motorisée, le vélo électrique est à peine déplaçable. J'ai donc relancé le processus de charge et suis parti me promener. Pendant cette promenade, j'ai pris la décision de ne faire que Suwalki aujourd'hui ; tout le reste aurait été illusoire.

Après la promenade autour de la belle église, l'unité de contrôle indiquait une capacité de 65 kilomètres. Je considérais cela comme suffisant pour atteindre Suwalki. L'itinéraire prévu sur Komoot faisait environ 55 kilomètres.

Le vent devait être plus faible aujourd'hui qu'hier. Mais malheureusement, ce ne fût pas le cas. Du moins selon ma perception, il venait avec la même force de l'ouest. Cela signifie principalement un vent de travers venant de la droite, mais souvent, lors d'un changement de direction, cela se transforme en vent de face, rarement en vent arrière. Heureusement, le chemin menait souvent à travers la forêt, où le vent était à peine perceptible.

D'un autre côté, j'ai de nouveau dû lutter avec un terrain meuble pendant plusieurs kilomètres. Par rapport à Komoot, quelques kilomètres supplémentaires se sont ajoutés, comme m'avait déjà informé mon hôte Alges. Il est vétérinaire et se rend souvent chez les agriculteurs pour s'occuper des vaches et d'autres grands animaux. Il m'avait déjà proposé hier de m'y conduire en voiture pour que je connaisse le trajet. Ainsi, la surprise n'aurait plus existé, et à quoi bon quelques kilomètres dans le schéma général.

Et ensuite, est venu un autre point clé de ma tournée des États baltes. Avec le passage de la frontière vers la Pologne, j'ai quitté la Lituanie et donc le dernier État balte. Cela signifie que j'ai atteint l'objectif principal de mon voyage et que je suis maintenant de retour.

Mais est-ce vraiment le cas ? Je suis aussi curieux de la Pologne, un pays qui m'est également nouveau. Et c'est grand, donc il est probable que j'en ai presque autant que pour le Baltique pour le traverser. La première impression est positive, et le passage de la Lituanie à la Pologne n'est pas un choc culturel. Si ce n'avait été le panneau frontières, je n'aurais même pas remarqué que j'étais dans un autre pays.

Durant ma pause déjeuner, où je me suis rendu compte que je pouvais sûrement atteindre Suwalki, j'ai réservé une chambre par téléphone. Et me voilà maintenant, espérant que je pourrai réaliser ma longue randonnée demain.

On the other hand, I had to struggle with loose terrain again for several kilometers. According to Komoot, a few additional kilometers were added, as my host Alges had already informed me. He is a veterinarian and often goes to the farmers to take care of cows and other large animals. He had already offered me yesterday to drive me there by car so I would know the route. That way, the surprise would have been over, and what do a few kilometers mean in the grand scheme of things?

Then came another key point of my Baltic tour. With the border crossing into Poland, I left Lithuania and thus the last Baltic State. With that, I have reached the essential goal of my trip and am now only on the way back.

But is that really so? I am also curious about Poland—a country that is new to me as well. And it's large, which means that I will likely need nearly as long to cross it as I did for the Baltics. The first impression is positive, and the transition from Lithuania to Poland is not a culture shock. If it weren't for the border sign, I wouldn't have even noticed that I was in another country.

During my lunch break, when I realized that I could surely reach Suwalki, I reserved a room by phone. And here I am now, hoping that I can carry out my long tour tomorrow.
