A day that seemed endless

The day started with us not leaving as planned very early. After a quick breakfast, we started our journey towards Lithuania. Since the 7-day incidence rate in Poland at that time was 15.7 per 100,000 inhabitants, entry into Lithuania would have only been possible with a 14-day quarantine. For this reason, we decided to drive through Poland in one go. According to the route planner, the regular travel time was about 9 hours.

Unfortunately, we got caught in rush hour traffic in Warsaw, which cost us a half-hour delay. What we didn't know yet was that the thunderstorm that had formed there would accompany us for the next few hours. After about another half an hour, the visibility was so poor that we decided to drive to a rest area. However, this rest area soon became so flooded that we returned to the highway.

When the thunderstorm caught up with us again, we had no choice but to exit the highway. This time, it started to hail, so we sought shelter under a gas station roof. After it calm down, we started towards Lithuania again.

As you can imagine, we caught up with the thunderstorm again after a short drive, but this time we decided to drive through it cautiously.

We were overjoyed when we finally saw light at the end of the tunnel. When the navigation system directed us off the highway, there would have been another good 2 hours left. Unfortunately, the weather god was not on our side at all. Because once again, we got caught in an unbelievable thunderstorm. The roads were already partially very difficult to drive on, but on top of that, it was raining as if the world was ending.

So it happened that we finally arrived at our campground Vitrūna in Meteliai, exhausted, after a total of over 12 hours of driving, just before midnight. Of course, no one was awake anymore, so we parked our camper on the parking lot, set it up, and immediately fell asleep despite the loud rain pouring down.
