Hiking up to the Sopela Bay (Artaza-Urederra)

Publié: 08.03.2023

The campsite in Sopela is well equipped, but unfortunately the view of the beautiful bay is increasingly blocked by apartment buildings. And so, even though we managed to get the most beautiful view (there were only 3 other motorhomes on the site), we were woken up by construction noise in the morning at 7 and at 8. So it was clear that I would just go for a short walk and then we would search for a better spot.

So we ended up in a bad mood, because of rain, cold weather, and other bad vibes, at Playa de Orinon. The parking lot at the bay offers another beautiful view and the mountains on the right and left invite you to great hikes, but this time we have no luck, the weather doesn't allow for a mountain hike and the forecast for the next few days doesn't promise anything good either. So after much thought, this morning we decided to leave the coast and head inland, where the weather is supposed to be warmer and consistently dry. Ironically, we drove all day in the rain, but tonight we found a beautiful campsite (Artaza-Urederra) that welcomed us incredibly friendly, even though we arrived on the last day of their only closed week. The energy for hot water and electricity is generated here ecologically, it is absolutely quiet and relaxed, and the view of the landscape is very soothing even without rushing waves. The weather will be good from tomorrow on (hope dies last) and then we will also stay for 2 nights. 😊
