Today we have 22.9km ahead of us. Villafranca del Bierzo. Infinitely far it seems to us after 2 days with only 17km. Fortunately, nothing hurts us so much today.
However, we get lost several times on the way out of town, in the dark, and it takes forever... until we meet an American family with whom we chat. So we gain speed and it becomes enjoyable to walk and talk again. After a while, Kay and I walk alone again through green vineyards. The landscape is beautiful... but every step is exhausting and I just want to arrive.
Finally arrived, we have rice for lunch... with nothing... Because it's Sunday and everything is closed and that's all we have left. So we walk a little further into the village in the evening and treat ourselves to a pilgrim's menu... Unfortunately, not particularly tasty. I get a noodle soup, which rather reminds me of snail slime, but one has gotten used to the fact that Spaniards cannot cook noodles.
We meet many familiar faces and it is nice to chat. Finally in bed, we sleep on plastic mattresses with disposable paper covers. After brushing our teeth, the whole room smells like cannabis... Apparently, two Spaniards have gout. They could at least close the balcony door.
In the middle of the night, I break several slats of the bed with a loud crash. Oops...
And so this night passes and it's time to get up way too quickly. Because checkout is between 7 and 8 a.m. in every hostel.
