The penny-pinchers made their second attempt today, into the jungle on their own. I really wanted to see this animal sanctuary. So back to the bus station again, and yes this time the road was not closed, no strike, etc. We drove to a village first. Then crossed river 1 with a boat. We picked up another German, apparently penny-pincher number 3, who looked like Boris Becker. Driver 1 wanted to charge us 25 dollars for the boat ride. We thought we could manage without it, so we walked into the undergrowth with our flip-flops. I said we should turn back, not interested in snakes, and then back to the boat. And yes, he eventually agreed to do it for 20 dollars, and we sat safely in the waiting canoe that took us back to the village. That was an adventure today. But with our walking action, we would have never made it there. It was exciting. On the way back, we met another German immigrant who told wild stories about abducted children (organ donation), rape, and family murders with machetes in the jungle due to alcohol influence. Well, glad we didn't keep walking. It was creepy what she said.
