Kanha National Park covers 940 square kilometers and two districts - Mandla and Balaghat - in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. It is said to be one of the best tiger reserves in the country. This exceptionally beautiful place with a diverse range of flora and fauna inspired the author Rudyard Kipling to write his classic book “The Jungle Book”.
We experience two extraordinary days here with a total of 5 sightings of 4 different tigers.
Right at the beginning of the first exit, a tiger is spotted - the usual pack of off-road vehicles races to the reported spot, we are right in the middle of it. Here we see a still quite young, 2- to 3-year-old tiger (Tiger No. 1), which we call “the film star” because of his self-confident appearance. You really get the feeling that he enjoys the attention - until it gets to him becomes a lot and he retreats back into the bush. We can see him again later somewhere else.
You can see from the pictures that we can of course see and photograph other animal species here.
The absolute highlight is the last ride on the second afternoon - within just 2 hours we see three different tigers. “Number 2” roams along the path through the bush, number 3 is given the name “our private tiger” – he appears quite unexpectedly in front of our car, which is driving alone, and then leisurely crosses the path directly in front of us. Still very excited about this special tiger sighting, a Suzuki jeep stops in front of us and signals to us – tiger in sight! A little further away, but very close with binoculars and a telephoto, is our number 4 in the Kanha.
We are thrilled - we were worried about whether we would even see a tiger in the flesh on this trip, and now there are seven in total!
