We all slept well last night and woke up refreshed. Today is an excursion day. For breakfast, I made scrambled eggs with mushrooms, onions, tomatoes, and toast, which I served on our veranda. Then we drove to New Haven because we wanted to explore the city. Marie really wanted to go there because it's the home of the elite university 'Yale'. New Haven is only a 20-minute drive from Guilford and easily accessible via the interstate. During the drive, we heard a dull noise from the rear right, but we didn't pay much attention to it. There were no warning messages on the onboard computer. As we were looking for a parking space, we stopped at a red light. The driver of the car next to us signaled us to roll down our window. He then told us that there was damage to the rear right side of our car. We thanked him and pulled over to the right after the traffic light. Indeed, the rear panel was only hanging on by two brackets and would probably have fallen off soon. We managed to put it back in place as best as we could and decided to buy duct tape at the next drugstore to fix the fender. Once we found a parking space, we went to the city center and searched for the university grounds, which are also centrally located. You can spot it right away with the large buildings built in the Victorian style. These buildings are in very good condition, and you can immediately sense that there is a lot of financial leeway. Quite the opposite of the city of New Haven. Here, the buildings are in much worse condition, and there is also a lot of poverty and homelessness. We strolled through the green areas and treated ourselves to ice cream at Ben & Jerry's. It's now 32 degrees Celsius, and the cooling down feels great. After seeing everything, we drive back towards Guilford. In Clinton, we find an outlet center and do some shopping. It's not too crowded, and we have space. Everyone finds something for themselves, and when it gets evening, we drive back home. Since we didn't feel like cooking today, we spontaneously decided to go out for dinner and found a nice little restaurant called 'South Lane Bistro' in Guilford. We were able to get a table spontaneously, and everyone chose something from the menu. The food here is really recommendable and incredibly delicious. Unfortunately, they don't have draft beer, only canned beer. We paid a total of 150 dollars, but it was worth it. We ended the evening in a good mood at home, with another delicious cold drink.
