Yesterday was a rainy-chilly day with delicious food, solving chess puzzles, embroidering bibs for little Louis, who enjoys the last days in the warm belly and so on ... we survived the thunderstorms very well and today the weather is cool but sunny.
Today we are going on a Garmin Adventure Tour to the Rhine Falls - we will become waterfall fans here!
More later!
Puhhh... it was longer than expected again, but something always turns out differently than planned... it started very well: the road to the neighboring village of St. Märgen was closed by the police, probably an accident... So we thought, in our youthful naivety, that we would somehow get to the neighboring village via the mountains. After wonderful routes high up past cozy farms, all paths eventually led to dead ends. By now, other vehicles with out-of-town license plates were also wandering through the mountainous area, and the hikers were surely wondering where all the traffic was coming from. So in the dead end, we explained the situation to a farmer who had just arrived with a hay tedder and asked for directions. Unfortunately, he confirmed our suspicion: there is no way around :-( So back to St. Peter, and then continue in the other direction, to later go in the desired direction... the first 45 minutes were already over.
Well, we weren't in a hurry :-)
Then we went straight to the Rhine Falls of Schaffhausen on beautiful paths.
The surely well-deserved coffee had to wait, the prices were anything but appetizing. After a break with a bench in the shade and a wonderful view of the Rhine Falls (and the tourist queues at the boat ticket counters), we returned via small streets through the Blauburgunder vineyards. We already suspected that the navigation had secretly switched to bike paths... and suddenly we were back in Germany unnoticed.
We continued on the beautiful Black Forest Panorama Road towards Schluchsee.
There we had a big coffee and an ice cream! FINALLY! We continued along Lake Schluchsee towards Aitern. On the way, we spontaneously made a detour to St. Blasien to see the cathedral. Thank God it was still open shortly before 6 p.m.... otherwise we would have missed something for sure!
A truly gigantic, light-flooded dome room, it left me speechless!
Simply wonderful!! And the organ behind the altar, quite unusual.
Unfortunately, we are already on our way back on Saturday, so we can't hear the organ.
We continued up to the Schauinsland mountain at 1240 m.
The few stairs at the parking lot didn't give any indication of how many meters in altitude we would have to climb for the distance of 600 meters... and that with motorcycle gear... otherwise I would probably have stayed down. But Gerhard motivated me very well and so we made it with some rest breaks
at least to the observation tower. But then I was exhausted. The view from below was also fantastic, Gerhard climbed the tower on his own.
It was wonderful up there and we had a brilliant all-round view in all directions.
It was already 7:30 p.m. and we wanted to eat in the Gaststüberl in St. Peter tonight. The kitchen closes at 9 p.m... so we quickly calculated that the contents of the refrigerator would be sufficient to prevent starvation. So we continued via Todtnau and Kirchzarten to St. Peter. And here our navigation system had the great idea that we could take a little detour through the wildly romantic Unteribental-Untertal and Unteribental-Obertal (well, it didn't know the state of our stomach contents - they were practically gaseous, so airy empty). So we patiently followed the narrow, curvy road through sections of the Black Forest, and eventually arrived surprisingly in St. Peter. What luck!
After 272 km, we are both equally exhausted and good for nothing except eating and sleeping.
Good night, dear ones, and warm greetings from us!
