Culture and reminiscing

Since our butts needed a break, we decided to do something cultural in Lienz on Friday. After a good night's sleep, we checked the weather for the upcoming days as usual and planned our next tour based on that. Tomorrow’s will be a more relaxed one. In the morning, we relaxed at the campsite, enjoying the time with a book or a nap. Mini also cooked our dinner in advance for the evening.

Mini's stories of past vacations in East Tyrol during childhood piqued Stefanie's curiosity, and so we set off for Schloss Bruck. There we marched from the parking lot of the Lienz cable cars up to the castle in about 30°C - as always at this time, there were no parking spots available at the top. In the cool castle, we walked through an exhibition on gifts from the gods, Albin Egger-Lienz, and Josef Dapra. The exhibits on the gifts from the gods and their accompanying descriptions were very interesting and refreshed our sparse knowledge about the Roman era. However, Stefanie was particularly taken with the paintings and the history of Albin Egger-Lienz afterwards. For all insiders, the original Dance of Death is back in its homeland East Tyrol and can be viewed in Schloss Bruck. The subsequent photo exhibition was so-so. Photography might have been more challenging and technically difficult in the past. However, with all the digital possibilities today, the images did not enchant us. The obligatory climb to the tower offered us a beautiful view over Lienz. We rounded off our castle visit with an exhibition about the resident bats there. The castle shop also had a cardboard knight's castle, which brought back nice memories. However, Mini's castle in childhood was much larger and more detailed.

After a short detour to Billa, Lidl, and MPreis, we headed back to the campsite and looked forward to the dinner we had prepared earlier. Just before going to sleep, we prepared everything for tomorrow's tour and were already excited about it.
