Day 31 Big Sur

Nai-publish: 21.07.2016

After leaving our luxury hotel without breakfast, we had a meal at the beach promenade of Monterey.

Then we drove south on Highway 1. A unique drive through one of the most exciting landscapes in the USA. On the left side steep hills and forests and on the other side the fantastic view of the Pacific. This continues for several hundred kilometers along the coast to the south. On the way we saw a large colony of sea elephants. These peculiar giants were practically extinct a hundred years ago. Only a few specimens survived on a lonely island. The first sea elephants were sighted on the California coast in 1990. Today, several thousand specimens live on the coast of Big Sur and Baja California.

Later, the road continues inland, where expensive villas and large ranches alternate. The further south you go, the more vineyards you can see.

After our arrival in Santa Barbara, we settled into our little cottage, which will be our home for the remaining days of our vacation. A lovely stagecoach cottage, a former stagecoach station. Lovingly furnished and conveniently located. We are excited to see what the surroundings look like during the day.
