# Day 4 The Better Monaco

Nai-publish: 05.03.2022

The thoughts have matured - I will stay in Italy for another night and cycle to Monaco today. The distance is absolutely manageable - 17 km, but with inclines. That's why I have my new e-bike.

And the local campsite is definitely a recommendation for the region. There are initially no suitable places on the coast behind the border in France. That only starts again behind Cannes.

So, get the bike out of the garage, adjust it, check the battery status and choose the route. Let's go. And uphill immediately. Battery level 3 is now quickly switched on - why should I struggle if I have help.

To Menton (border town) it's only 6 km. Very nice road (SS1) with little traffic and great views of the coast from above. In Menton at the border there is a lot of police - but they just smile and let me continue. Right behind the border is the ...

The beach promenade has an upper and a lower part. I ride the bike down directly at the harbor and on the beach. Most shops are still closed, but the promenade invites you to linger. Sunshine and good temperatures enhance the mood.

But I want to continue to Monaco.

Good decision to explore this part by bike. I was one of the few cyclists in Monaco. Occasionally I encountered some road cyclists (mostly older semester), otherwise people show their cars here. But with the bike you are much freer, you can linger, stop at the beach, take photos and don't bother anyone. Good experience.

The route becomes tricky, turns here, signposts there, closed roads, etc.

The D 6098 will be my gateway. And I'm pretty high up. So if I want to go to the harbor, I have to go downhill.

The scenery of Monaco scares me a little.

Only skyscrapers and every centimeter is used. Can that be beautiful? I have my doubts. After some confusion, I end up at sea level at the Port de Monaco with its yachts. And the road in front of it is a construction site. New asphalt is being laid. You can guess what for.

This part of France is completely dedicated to commerce. I don't feel like staying here longer. Back to Menton - the better Monaco.

On the way back, both the mobile phone battery and the bike battery are slowly reaching their limits. But I will find the way now.

I order the 4 o'clock beer in the best French -

"J'ai soif, une bierre pression s.v.p."

This is how the afternoon ends with the setting sun.

Back at the campsite, there were 40 km of cycling on the odometer. That gave me a lot of impressions.

For dinner, I went back to the fine CONAD supermarket and got myself a portion of homemade pasta. I had it together with a delicious salad and pesto.

The place has changed almost completely over the day. RVs have disappeared, new ones have been added. It's surprising how many people are on the road at this time.

Tomorrow I will continue along the Cote d'Azur.
