Today was my day of museums. I started in the morning with the Templo Mayor, the excavation site of an Aztec temple complex that emerged in the 14th and 15th centuries in the middle of the city. The ruins were only discovered and unearthed by chance in the 1970s.
Next stop was the Antiguo Colegio de San Ildefonso. There are several murals by Diego Rivera and other artists to see.
The probably most famous mural by Rivera, 'Sueño de una tarde dominical en la Alameda Central', even has its own museum. The painting features some famous figures, including Frida Kahlo, his wife.
Afterwards, I visited the Museo Soumaya in Polanco. The architecture of the building is spectacular. It houses a very large collection, especially of European artists from various epochs. Some exhibits by Rodin can be seen on the top floor.
The Museo Nacional de Antropología concluded my museum tour. It's a quite large complex with different halls, you could spend a whole day there... But the most exciting part was the special exhibition 'Grandeza de México', which also included contemporary works by Mexican artists.
