On our way to Mimbi Caves Campground we stopped at Fitzroy Crossing for some information about the area. Well, there is not much around, but the Danggu Geikie Gorge National Park. There is a boat tour, but only at 8am oder 4pm, so you can only do it, if you are lucky enough to get an accommodation in Fitzroy Crossing.
So, no boat tour but (again) walking time: it is about 4,5 km return walk into the Gorge, so not the distance but temperatures at about 38C in the morning time. The walk is easy, partly through deep sand and ends a bit earlier than the boat tour would. Most of the walk you cannot see any water, just at the end of the walk. After having seen so many gorges e.g. at the Gibb, this gorge wasn´t so impressive. The most interesting information was actually the flood level information in the walkers registration shelter.
After this walk we went back to Fitzroy Crossing to organise some food before heading to the Mimbi Cave Campground. The campground was very nice: clean, tidy, good showers & amenities.
