Leaving Ellenbrae Station Stuart was a bit sad, because of the very nice campground and the lovely scones they are offering. Nevertheless, Stuart was very much looking forward to the first stop of the day, the Gibb River Station. Well, there was Telstra connection just at the sign, but the station itself was closed, so no food, meal or possibility to buy a Gibb River Road T-Shirt to take home. Stuart was very disappointed and decided to skip the next walk.
The walk of the day was up and down to the Barnett River Gorge. It is a rocky walk in the sun up to the rim and then down to the Gorge. From the rim you have pretty lovely views on the gorge, especially with some yellow flowers still visible. At the gorge there is still some water, but not enough to have a good swim, but enough for cooling down you foot and legs up to about the knee and have a nice break.
On the way to the Mt Elisabeth station for the overnight stay at the campground Stuart discovered some signs and adds of the Dodnun Shop for souvenirs, food, drinks and warm clothing, so he was very much looking forward to his Gibb T-Shirt and finally some good food.
Well, what can we say, the adds were nice, but as soon as the shop opened (only open 8-10am and 2-4pm), Stuart was disappointed once again... There was stuff like pasta to cook and ice-cream on sale, but nothing else.
After having at least some ice-cream we drove on to the Mt Elisabeth station, which given from the reviews was a very lovely campground with hot showers, WiFi and meals. Well, it wasn´t our day: no hot showers, no WiFi and no meals (except you could buy frozen meat & sausages). So Stuart had a look around in the car and collected all the edible stuff for us to have some food the evening and not be too 'hangry'.
