After only 2.5 weeks, doing the Great Ocean Road? Even I didn't expect that - it was all quite spontaneous.
Asia from Italy is also an Au Pair in Melbourne and on Wednesday mornings we were thinking about what else we could do before she flies home on Sunday. No one could think of anything until I asked her what she really wanted to do in Australia. And her answer was: the Great Ocean Road. Quickly googled how far away it was and noted it for the weekend. Met on Friday morning, went to the market and then looked at the map and chose a nice place - in this case Apollo Bay. Looked for accommodations - and booked! Saturday morning at 8 o'clock I was in front of her front door. Into the car and off we went - and nobody knew where to! We just drove and stopped where we liked. From beaches and waterfalls to koalas, everything was included. I have to say that it was my first longer car trip on the left side of the road and on the right side in the car (my first tour with the car was 30 minutes - and the second one was directly the Great Ocean Road; I didn't expect that either).
In the evening at the hostel she cooked spaghetti after we walked to the supermarket to buy cookies and wine. We had a great evening and met other Au Pairs and backpackers from all over the world (so we went to bed late...).
The next morning we wanted to watch the sunrise at the beach at 6:30am - but we were too tired and it was cloudy. So we had breakfast at 7 o'clock and enjoyed the view of the ocean. At 8 o'clock we started - looking at koalas and going to the 12 Apostles. From there, 200 km back to Melbourne, so that we were back around 4 o'clock and she could go straight to the airport. Sounds stressful - it was! But lots of fun and many great memories! :)
