Doubtful Sound per Heli

Nai-publish: 31.10.2023

Day 52 - 10/31/23

The journey from Queenstown to Te Anau took us about 2.5 hours in good weather. Te Anau is, so to speak, the hub for excursions to the famous Milford Sound and the much longer Doubtful Sound (neither of which are actually sounds that come from rivers - but fjords that were "dug" by icebergs). We had the choice of viewing Doubtful Sound from below on an 8-hour tour (boat - bus - boat and back again) or taking a one-hour helicopter flight and enjoying the sound from above.

Since Karin's life insurance expired today, October 31, 2023, this was the last chance to leave something to her children in the short term and so we pulled the 50:50 joker and entrusted ourselves to the helicopter team.

What we saw here can't be compared in the slightest with a boat tour - it was simply spectacular, even if I was a little uneasy sitting in the back, with the heater under my butt, the smell of petrol exhaust in my nose and the turbulent air turbulence at times, the pictures were outstanding.
