South India - The Journey Begins with the Indian Dance Festival

Nai-publish: 06.01.2023

Our journey through South India starts in Mamallapuram.

Arriving at Chennai airport, we take the bus south for about 2 hours.

First impression: there is a lot of honking, he who honks is right, and the variety of horns is impressive.

Mamallapuram is a rather small city, but currently home to the Indian Dance Festival. As a result, crowds of people flock through the city and the markets set up, there is fantastic food at the street stalls, and it seems like a wave of colorful colors.

Most surprising is probably the food, which is even moderately spicy in the local pubs and stands. It is eaten only with the right hand, no cutlery is available.

Of course, this only applies to humans, a kiwi can praise its beak and strict diet.

There is a wide selection of temples in all shapes and colors to see. From 'Krishna's Butterball', where you expect to be crushed any minute, to the 'Five Rathas' and the 'Shore Temple', a temple right by the sea. A throne for Berti is a must.

Afterwards, the first cooling off in the Indian Ocean and a cold beer are more than welcome!

In the evening, a visit to the Dance Festival is a must.

Not quite comparable to a Taylor Swift concert, but similar atmosphere.

After a portion of 'Dosa' and 'Idli' (again, only for humans), we are exhausted from all the impressions and look forward to a good night's sleep.

Tomorrow our journey continues to Puducherry, where there are excellent croissants.
