At 7 o'clock I wake up. Photos of the mountain panorama in the morning light. Breakfast consists of couscous, hard-boiled eggs, some cheese, and mote (wheat grains soaked in water); all mixed together.
On the way to fetch firewood, which is about 1.5 km away in the forest, Pati, walking in front of me with the machete in hand, slips on a root and crashes into a tree. Her arm swings back and nearly splits me in two. From now on, I keep my distance. We spend hours hauling loads of wet wood through the forest and moor. At noon, I shovel more legumes into myself, this time with rice. Jan and Lars arrive to take over. On the way back to Alerces, Pati and I exchange a few planks on one of the many wooden walkways (this time even with a hammer that Lars brought up) and lay down more chicken wire. In the evening, at the Refugio Alerces, I make pancakes over the fire after a short cold bath in the lagoon.
