The journey from Mirissa to Unawatuna was just a hop, skip, and a jump away. Unawatuna is also a fairly touristy place, but the main road doesn't run directly next to the beach, but rather a few hundred meters behind it. That makes things much more pleasant.
After looking at a handful of accommodations, we settled on the "Secret Garden" that I had previously favored. As it turns out, it is run by a very nice Swiss woman. The buildings are from colonial times. A canal runs through the large garden and there is an octagonal domed structure in the garden where daily yoga classes and massages are offered upon request. We booked for two days and got a stylish cottage in the large garden, far enough away from the road.
Upon arrival, we immediately went for a dip in the beautiful turquoise sea. By the way, the sea has a perfect temperature; quite warm so that you don't freeze even after a long time, but not too warm, as I know it from the Seychelles, where jumping into the sea is no longer refreshing.
We ate very well and both treated ourselves to a massage from the yoga teacher. It was one of the best massages I've ever had :)
The next day, we explored the nearby Fort Galle (pronounced 'Gol').
