Heaven is crying big tears - but we have to go

Nai-publish: 12.09.2023

Now it's here, the day of departure. Even though it was a great trip, I'm looking forward to being home. Seeing the boys, family and friends again. Immerse yourself in the “normal world” again.

But there is still a bit of time until then. Now we enjoy the American breakfast in the hotel and, contrary to the sometimes negative criticism, we are positively surprised. We've experienced worse. Checkout time is at 12:00 p.m., and Schahaatz tells the hotel clerk another hour for a late checkout. Still time for shopping and the citadel. Maybe we can find something as a souvenir that isn't too difficult. Unfortunately, the malls are all located at the harbor and, as you remember, it is at the foot of the mountain.

Facts

Halifax is the capital and largest municipality of the Canadian province of Nova Scotia and the largest municipality in Atlantic Canada. Halifax has an estimated population of 480,600, with 348,634 people living in the metropolitan area. In 1996, Halifax, Dartmouth, Bedford and Halifax County were consolidated.

Halifax is a major economic center in Atlantic Canada with a large concentration of government services

and private sector companies. The most important employers include the Ministry of Defense, two universities, the Nova Scotia Health Authority and the Port of Halifax. Agriculture, fishing, mining, forestry and natural gas extraction are important extractive industries.

Edward Cornwallis arrived on June 21, 1749 with 13 transport ships and a sloop of war to found Halifax. Cornwallis brought with him 1,176 settlers and their families. To protect against attacks by Mi'kmaq, Acadians and French on the new Protestant settlements, British fortifications were built at Halifax (Citadel Hill) (1749), Bedford (Fort Sackville) (1749), Dartmouth (1750) and Lawrencetown (1754). Halifax is named after the 2nd Earl of Halifax.

On December 6, 1917, one of the greatest disasters in Canadian history occurred when a French cargo ship carrying ammunition collided with the Belgian ship. The explosion was the largest man-made explosion before the development of nuclear weapons.

Only the facade remains here

The shopping wasn't successful, it was just damp - from the outside due to the rain that was starting to fall and from the inside due to the non-existent breathable membrane of my rain jacket, which acts similar to a roasting tube. Cook in your own juice. You can no longer rely on the weather forecast. Actually, rain was only forecast for 2 p.m.

Pretty mountainous

We have to hurry because we want to watch, or rather listen to, the cannon fire in the citadel at 12:00 p.m. The rain has now stopped again. It's almost like in Denmark, where you only have to wait 10 minutes if you don't like the current weather.

We reach the citadel on time. The cannon is fired with a deafening roar.

Followed by the changing of the guard at the gate of the fortress. You should feel like you've been transported back to the year 1769. But I doubt that there was so much female power at that time.

Another quick trip to the museum and we head out to check out. We still have a bit of time to fill, so we'll continue playing Frisbee golf, at least once here in Nova Scotia. We leave downtown and have to cross the A.Murray MacKay Bridge to Dartmouth.

A toll bridge that only takes cash. Very unusual and very stupid, because Shahaatz gave the last of our cash to the maid. But the young man says no problem, he writes down the name and wants ID. Shahaatz gives him his ID card and after he writes down whatever, we can continue driving.

A nice 9-basket area is waiting for us, just the thing for practicing.

Short distances without major obstacles. The biggest obstacle at the moment is the rain that is falling from the sky in torrents.

We just wait 10 minutes and then play almost rain-free,

eat something afterwards,

Pie and brownies

visit two more malls and drive to the airport around 5:00 p.m. It's pouring rain - Nova Scotia is sad that we're leaving.

Now we have to give him up

So far everything is going according to plan. We were used to the comfortable and hassle-free check-in at the machine from United and Air Canada. And actually we had booked Lufthansa. We get Discover Airlines (formerly Eurowings and Edelweiss) with check-in at the counter, despite successful online check-in. You can sole the staff's shoes while walking. It took them a solid 10 minutes for 2 suitcases. I've never experienced anything like that.

We take off from Halifax 30 minutes late.
