From Ballarat to the Great Ocean Road in the far south 11/4/18

Nai-publish: 05.11.2018

The night was bitterly cold (7°C), today we could have used the heating, but we didn't have any electricity. The route started with many flocks of sheep and herds of cattle. We left the gold mining towns behind us and now came a lot of farms. The roads were a bit smaller, but we could still drive well with our campervan. Finally, the coast was in sight - the famous Great Ocean Road. No Australia guidebook without a photo of the 'Twelve Apostles' (steep towering rock needles). First, we went to the information point in Port Campbell, which is almost in every town, to get information about the campsites (the long weekend of the Australians is catching up with us). We got detailed information again, as everywhere since then, and also material... They even searched for a spot for us on the phone. A small, but very natural, family-friendly place was then reserved for us. Then we drove along the coastal road (it has a total of 300 km and is supposed to be one of the most beautiful in the world). In every bay by the sea, there are beaches with different amazing water-eroded rock formations, all of which have a name. The sea roared and surged everywhere and there was sometimes a strong wind. The natural spectacles on the steep coast with the rough Pacific Ocean were wonderful to look at. Finally, at the 12 Apostles beaches, of which only 7 rocks remain, you could walk down a hiking trail and 92 steps to the beach. It's fantastic to experience everything from below. And then the sun also showed itself a bit. In the evening at 20:07 o'clock for the sunset we were at the beach again, unfortunately there were too many clouds in the sky and the promised little penguins also didn't come out of the water at our beach. There was a nice pub at the campsite and we ended the eventful day there before getting into the cold camper.
