Gerra not Colombres

Nai-publish: 17.05.2019

Storm and rain hardly let us sleep at night. The pleasant breakfast strengthened us to face the day ahead. We started with continuing stormy wind and light rain. The longer we were on the way, the better the weather got. We passed through smaller towns and reached Unquera, where we crossed the border from Cantabria to Asturias over a bridge. Not far from the supposed destination, it went steeply uphill again. At the highest point, we found a chapel where an older gentleman lit a candle for our further journey for a small fee. Now we were really close to the goal. Unfortunately, the rain returned, heavy and abundant. But we were almost there. Finally, the booked 4**** villa came into sight! Arriving at the entrance, a lady told us that the hotel is closed. Our horrified faces and our helplessness led her to describe an alternative guesthouse, which we thankfully reached shortly afterwards. Not 4**** but 2 beds. The end of a 27 km long day.
