Morning: Soria * Evening: Soria
***
In the early morning, it is still freezing cold. But when the sun rises over the mountain, nothing can hold us back. We start our stand-up paddle tour on the Rio Duero. To the place where we discovered the beautiful rock landscape yesterday. The route is incredibly beautiful, turning a 'small breakfast round' into a 16-kilometer tour.
The bright red and yellow rocks reach directly into the water. Green, tree-covered hills follow. The Rio Duero winds in curves. And it gets more beautiful after every curve. Steep towering rocks, then again a wide valley. The river turns into a small lake and then into a narrow gorge again. Here and there a pine tree that leans diagonally on the water surface. At the very top of the steep, pointed rocks, a huge vulture sits. Its colleagues circle in the heights above the river valley. This area can only be reached by boat, so we are completely alone here. It is absolutely quiet and peaceful. When we later see the Ermita de San Sarturio on the long way back, we know: We are almost back at the camper. Tired and happy...
In the evening, we cycle to the Monasterio de Juan de Duero, a monastery ruin with a fascinating cloister. The columns are all different in their construction and beautiful in their diversity.
We continue by bike to the old town of Soria. There is a medieval market taking place there. We stroll through the crowd, buy delicious truffle cheese, and enjoy the Spanish life in the bars.
