Nile cruise in Egypt - Part 3 Temple of Kom Ombo

The double temple that is visitable today was built on the banks of the Nile and served the worship of the deities Sobek, the crocodile god, and Horus, the falcon god.

From the ship, one could walk directly to the temple, it was only a few meters away.

Arriving at the temple complex, our tour guide told us that the temple used to be used as a pharmacy. On the walls, there were recipes for all sorts of ailments. The ancient Egyptians were very proud of it.

With a smile, he said, 'It's like today when you show someone your stamp collection.'

I don't think that impresses anyone these days.

The history of the temple and its use as a double temple for two very important deities suggested that it must have been very significant.

Even if one couldn't read hieroglyphics, one was still overwhelmed by the amount of text. There was hardly a place where there was nothing to read.

Inside, there were mummified crocodiles. Here, one could get an idea of what the ancient Egyptians were capable of technologically.

The falcon god, depicted on the bottom left in the picture, was encountered on many of the walls and columns.

His symbol, the sun disc, was also easily recognizable.

We continued on in the evening. Among other things, we passed a very beautiful bridge.
