'Take enough time'. This sentence is your constant companion when you research a trip through Myanmar. Unfortunately, the only thing that was missing for us (28, m, 25, w) for this trip was time. We had the budget (limited), the ideas (plenty), and the desire (huge) to explore Myanmar. For us, this was reason enough to plan the trip anyway and ignore any recommendations for travel and stay time - challenge accepted.
After the initial rough planning and factoring in stops in Abu Dhabi and Bangkok, we had exactly 8 days (including arrival and departure day) for the trip through Myanmar. Not bad.
To discover as much as possible in Myanmar in the shortest amount of time, you need a smart plan, pre-booked transportation, and incredible luck.
Backpackers probably would have stoned us for planning in Excel
If you research the highlights of Myanmar, you will come across the following spots even without great research skills:
Mandalay (U-Bein Bridge)
Inle Lake (One-legged rowers)
Bagan (Countless pagodas and temples)
Yangon (Shwedagon Pagoda)
Mandalay, Nyaung Shwe, Bagan, and Yangon: four places for eight days
We had set our goals for the week, the planning is done: Let's go!
