Römerweg in Nationalpark Peneda-Gerês

Argitaratu: 10.10.2023

What Geres?

I hope everything is well for you all and that you are still enjoying the summer that the current high pressure area is bringing.

I'm making the most of the last few days of good weather to do a little hiking, a via ferrata and see a few more cities in northern Spain.

Before I went back to Spain I went hiking in the Peneda-Gerês National Park. Here I did the old Römerweg trail and felt like I was in the Asterix and Obelix comics.

Cool tree

In this national park everything was very, very green and very, very natural, which I found incredibly beautiful and calming.

I have also discovered once again that I feel most comfortable in an environment where there is water. So clean and cool water. This is also the case in the national park, as there are several reservoirs and rivers here. Overall, the vegetation has changed again and again on this approximately 10 km long trail.

The reservoir itself also reminded me a little of Plansee.

WOW
Like Asterix and Obelix.

However, I am still missing an idefix for my comparison to Asterix and Obelix. I knew that I still needed a 4-legged companion. (To explain: Obelix is my car in this picture. Because my car also carries my heavy menhir (aka my luggage and me).)

Vines on the house

The mountain village of Campo do Gerês is a wonderful place and the houses with their old architecture are simply incredibly beautiful to look at - especially when there are vines growing on and around them.

Nature is taking it back!

On the way back I found an old crane that is slowly being used by nature as a "flower pot".

The next day I had actually planned another tour, but since I looked at the weather report and realized that I would only have about 6 more days of nice weather before it was supposed to rain for several days and I therefore decided to do these 6 After a relatively "stressful" few days and a few tours planned, I treated myself to a day of rest. Watched a few series, slept in, wrote a little blog and went to bed early.

Bread delivery a la Starbucks

I found the bread roll delivery that day very funny and I felt like I was at Starbucks - when you say your name and something different comes out 100% of the time.

On the day of the trip I got up at 7:30 and set off for Spain (Vigo) shortly after 7.

View on the morning of my onward journey

Here you can also see the wonderful panorama that I had when I left.

So until the next post,
Your Britta
