Öland in one day (08/05/2018)

Argitaratu: 25.09.2018

In the morning, I continued my journey. I went to Öland. First, I went to Borgholm Castle where I spent about an hour in the museum. It was quite large and informative. There was a lot to see and the view was also great.

Then I continued to Byrum's raukar. This is a limestone formation located on the west coast of Öland. After exploring the area, I headed to the northern part of Öland to Långe Erik, the lighthouse on Öland. For about 4€, you could enjoy the view from the top. I did so too. On one side, all I could see was the vast ocean on the horizon and on the other side, I could let my gaze wander over a part of Öland. After this breathtaking view, I drove to the mills in Lerkaka. These mills are also landmarks of the island. You can find this type of mill all over the island, occasionally by the roadside. About 300 to 400 are still standing on Öland today.

Next, I went to Eketorp Castle, but unfortunately, it was already closed. However, I still took a look at it from the outside. I'm sure it would be very interesting to explore it from the inside as it dates back to around 300 BC.

On my way to the campsite, I also passed by the Gettlinge graves. I made another stop there. The burial site dates back to the Bronze and Iron Ages and is one of the largest in Sweden.

Then it was already late and I drove to Mörbylånga campsite. I paid 160 krona for one night, about 16€. It was the first time I stayed at a campsite for less than 20€. :) However, setting up the tent here was quite a challenge. It was very windy and I had some difficulties. After some time, I finally managed to set it up.

For dinner, I made spinach dumplings with olive oil, tomato, and cheese.

The night was very restless due to the strong wind. I kept waking up because the tent wall hit my face. I was really annoyed... and glad when the night was finally over.

Today's driven kilometers: about 293
