Quer durch Deutschland, Day 2

Day 2

distance traveled: 243 kilometers

Brrr, it's cold this morning: the thermometer shows -3° Celsius. Luckily, we have our heater on. The sun slowly rises behind the mountains, bathing the peaks in golden light.

Now we can finally see where we have landed. What a view! We are near Hintersee, at a hiking parking lot right at the entrance of Berchtesgaden National Park.

Since we are here during the time of COVID-19, the inn next to the parking lot is unfortunately closed.

For breakfast, we prepare soft-boiled eggs, tea, and bread with jam.

Later, we decide to drive to Lake Königssee, but it turns out to be a disappointment as the lake is completely covered in fog. Too bad.

We walk along the lake for a while and then decide to drive up to the Bavarian Forest. The approximately 220km route takes us on country roads; we want to see the landscape.

We pass by the foothills of the Alps, meadows, the Danube, and countless spruce forests.

At lunchtime, we finally reach our overnight spot. Lunch is quickly prepared: hot German sausages with mashed potatoes and bread, delicious.

The place and the weather allow me to fly my drone and capture some aerial impressions of the area.

Annika wants to go for a walk, so we look at the information board to find a route.

It leads us up a steep mountain and then flattens out along the dam of the Fraunau drinking water reservoir.

Here too, unsurprisingly, the reservoir is covered in a dark veil of fog, but that's not tragic because it creates a mystical atmosphere. On the way back, we have a very nice experience: thousands of, we assume they are bramblings, birds flying over our heads for minutes.

We spend the rest of the day relaxing. However, we couldn't watch a movie. There is no internet, not even regular cell phone reception. That's digital detoxing! So we continue to browse through our books and soon fall asleep.
