Short trip to the Moselle

Before the first big vacation during the Christmas season, a second small 'trial vacation' had to take place. This time it took us to the beautiful Moselle.

As last time, our trip started on Friday evening after work. The good thing about a camper is that most of the things you need (hygiene and personal care items, bedding, kitchen utensils, etc.) are already packed and ready to go. So we only have to gather and safely store clothes and groceries, and off we go. Simply great, as we think.

After loading was finished, we left the yard around 6 p.m. It was Friday the 13th, and we promptly noticed it: just before we got on the highway, there was an accident a few minutes earlier at a traffic light, so we couldn't get through. So we had to turn around and take a little detour. 40km further on the highway, we encountered the next mishap; someone lost their couch. What a mess... We survived the rest of the journey without any further incidents and arrived at our sleeping place around 8:30 p.m. high up in the vineyards near Trier. You can believe me when I say that the ascent to get there was very adventurous on the steep vineyards.

We made ourselves comfortable for a while, and then went to bed after a long day.

The first rays of sunshine appeared behind the mountains when we woke up. It was only now that we realized how high up we were above the Moselle; a sensational view.

We had a leisurely breakfast, prepared ourselves and the camper for departure, and set off down the steep path through the vineyards.

The route always leads directly along the Moselle (many of you surely know the roads), but in the first hour, we saw very little because the veil of fog had not yet lifted.

We made the first stop at a castle that caught our eye immediately. As it turned out, it was the Lieser Castle, which also served as a hotel.

We continued our journey and enjoyed the atmosphere of the Moselle in autumn. After a few kilometers, we passed the Reichsburg, which perched high up on the rocks. However, a visit was not possible because the castle was not open due to Corona; what a shame.

We continued towards Koblenz, where the Moselle flows into the Rhine. Unfortunately, we did not discover anything noteworthy there, and so our short trip ended in Koblenz at the German Corner.

Even on this trip, the technology and concept of the camper did not let us down, and now we feel well prepared for the big road trip across Germany.
