Day 3 starts off relaxed at 8:00 with breakfast. Then we will be picked up by our driver. The first activity is visiting a tomb discovered about 25 years ago at the foot of the volcano. Here, we can admire the remaining skeletons and burial objects. After that, we will hike uphill for several hours to the crater of the volcano at about 4,800m. Our Peruvian friends may struggle with the thin air, so the pace of the hike will be relaxed. Once we reach the top, the view is once again fantastic. It gives us a real sense of the vastness of the salt flat. White, white, white as far as the eye can see.
Once we are back down, we will venture further into the desert to Isla de Pescado. This island is adorned with cacti that can reach up to 12m in height.
At 5pm, we will be back in Uyuni, gather our belongings, and head to the bus station. Overnight, we will travel to our final destination in South America - the Bolivian city of La Paz.
