From Fuerteventura, we flew with a stopover in Tenerife to continue on to La Gomera. This time, we had booked a small apartment in Valle Gran Rey for a week. Jonas and I had to sleep on the couch, but we had the biggest pool in Valle Gran Rey=)
After a quite turbulent flight in the small propeller plane, my stomach was already not very happy, but when we had to drive for another hour across the island by car (the entire road network here consists only of curves and winding roads), we all started to feel a little sick.
The small village where we stayed was really idyllic and cozy with small shops, nice bars and restaurants, and friendly people...some of them a bit "alternative", Germans who have escaped the German lifestyle and are now looking for a better, "more relaxed" life here=)
We quickly found a regular bar and a regular restaurant and enjoyed a bit more luxury here than we are used to on the road.
La Gomera is a truly beautiful, green, lush, and wild island. We went hiking for two days and we were really impressed by the landscape...no comparison to Fuerteventura!! Despite its small size, the island is so diverse that there should be something for everyone. The only thing you won't find directly here are beautiful beaches, unless you like black sand=) If you want to escape mass tourism on Tenerife, Gran Canaria, and co., like to go hiking, want some peace and quiet, and have a strong stomach, I can highly recommend La Gomera!!
Even though the Canary Islands were never on our travel route and not one of our desired destinations, we had two beautiful weeks and I am thankful for this time together!!!
But now it's finally time for us to go to New Zealand!!! I will tell you a bit more about our little hell trip to the other end of the world in the next post...
