Hello dear ones,
Today we got up early again to go hiking. We were done at 9:45 a.m., packed the car and checked out. The goal was to hike the Snout Track, which leads to the very end of a fjord and should take 2 hours each way according to our landlord. So we started walking with full motivation, through the harbor onto the track and then came the realization that we would have to go uphill.. a lot uphill. And the duration of our hiking trail was only described from the parking lot, which we still had to hike to because our landlord said "It starts right down here.."
Oh dear oh dear. As it got quite warm, we decided to just walk to Bob's Bay, which was very beautiful. After that, we thought, oh come on, we can make it to the Harbour Lookout as well, we are not weaklings, and from there we even walked to the Queen Charlotte Lookout which was definitely worth it. The nice thing was that we saw the sounds today, which we explored by car yesterday, and thus got a completely new perspective. We didn't walk all the way to the very end because time was running out and to be honest, we were already quite exhausted.. Apparently we are weaklings after all :'D
The way back was much less strenuous as it was mostly downhill and before we knew it, we were back at Sandy and our accommodation. We walked 11.6 km, which we were quite proud of, and thanks to the fast return we only took a little over three hours.
After changing our shoes, we set off towards Nelson where we will be staying tonight (20.03). On the way, we stopped at a bay and had some ice cream and dipped our feet in the cool water. To our surprise, there were a lot of jellyfish swimming around. After this little break, we continued, once again on the more scenic road, to Nelson. Along the way, we spontaneously stopped at a lookout sign. After about 15 minutes of walking, we reached the actual viewpoint and were able to catch one last beautiful view of the sounds.
The rest of the drive was again beautiful, we suddenly left the sounds behind and drove through the mountains, as is often the case on a very winding road, and suddenly we were back at the ocean. Nelson is beautifully located by the sea, but at first glance, apart from a small cozy city center, it doesn't have much to offer. It's possible that we missed a highlight, but we only went to the Thai restaurant quickly and had a delicious meal there. However, I have one question.. who puts mushrooms in Thai Chicken Basil Stir Fry?? That deserves a deduction point.. After the otherwise very tasty meal, we went to the beach for a short time and watched the sunset.
After that, we leisurely went shopping, we needed new water and fruit for tomorrow's lunch, and then went home. Here we do the usual things, look at photos, write to friends and family, and knowing us, or me, go to bed soon to be fit for tomorrow.
