On the further journey we passed a spot where a shipwreck occurred on January 10, 1940. The Aghia Eirini ran aground here with a coal cargo on the coast.
Fortunately, the 29 crew members were rescued by brave locals.

And this is what it looked like in December 1940
A steam-powered crane was installed to salvage the cargo and then dismantle and dispose of the wreck, the remains of the crane can still be seen today
