Truly beautiful, even though our gloomy pictures sometimes evoke Graf Dracula.
Then the "monastery", where monks and nuns still serve today.
The inclined elevator was particularly interesting, driven by six men running in a kind of hamster wheel to ensure the drive. Most of the time, they were prison inmates. If someone couldn't keep up, they were quickly thrown out and replaced, often resulting in serious injuries or death. The bodies were disposed of over the wall, and the tide did the dirty work.
