Day 4 Manda

Published: 12.03.2020

Today was a completely "normal day" with dental treatments from early morning until late. The patients seem endless. Unfortunately, we mostly only do pain treatment like tooth extraction.

Since we have already treated the children, today it was the mothers' turn. The head explained to us that the mothers usually collect garbage and only earn about 2000 Ariary (50 cents) per day. They usually have 6 or more children whom they cannot provide for. The Manda project also takes care of these mothers by looking after their health so that they can take care of their children.

Once a week, the mothers also receive information from a social worker about health issues, etc.

For lunch, we eat simple Malagasy food with the staff in the dining room. (Rice, vegetables, meat, bananas) with rice water. Rice water is supposed to be very healthy. They deliberately let the rice burn so that the rice water is tasty. (It's not to my taste, but I always drink a cup because it's healthy 😉)

Yesterday, an employee asked me if we could sing something traditional. After a short hesitation and consideration in the group, we decided on: "Alle meine Entchen" 😂 because everyone knew the lyrics. Our singing was recorded on a mobile phone. After that, we got a bit carried away and attempted to sing the German national anthem, but unfortunately, some team members didn't know the lyrics and it failed.

Tomorrow will be our last day in Manda and in the afternoon, we will pack our things and continue our journey.
