Great Ocean Road and Melbourne

Published: 18.01.2018

This will be the final report on Australia, time flew by incredibly fast - it has been eight weeks after all.

First, we passed by Melbourne because we were heading to the Great Ocean Road, which starts west of Melbourne. Unfortunately, we could only spend two days there because we had to return our car. So we had to drive quite a few kilometers to see everything we wanted. On the first day, our destination was Erskine Falls, about 400 kilometers away from Phillip Island. You could view it from above and from below. The weather was around 22 degrees, which is perfect for such tours. After that, we continued driving along the Great Ocean Road. By the way, it's definitely worth it, you can stop almost anywhere because it's incredibly beautiful and the road runs right along the sea. Our second destination for the day was the Koala Café at Kenneth River, where wild koalas live in the trees. We went searching and even found ten of them. We were able to experience them eating and climbing in nature - it was impressive.

We continued to Apollo Bay, where we made a stopover at a hostel to sleep.

On the second day of the Great Ocean Road, we headed to the Twelve Apostles. There are still several other rock formations there, such as the Loch Arch Gorge or the Gibson Steps. Of course, they are tourist highlights, but you shouldn't miss out on them. On the way back, we visited another waterfall. We stayed overnight in Torquay, about 100 kilometers before Melbourne.

Arriving in Melbourne, we had to return our car first, which was also good for the city itself, but we realized how many things we had accumulated in seven weeks. Not so easy 🙈.

We stayed at the Flinders Hostel, which is pretty central in the city center! Melbourne is a pretty beautiful city. It's worth taking the free city tour. It takes about 2.5 to three hours and you get to see great things. We enjoyed our last days in Melbourne. We walked a lot, visited the Botanic Gardens, and went to the VIC Museum, which you can visit for free in January. Additionally, we went to a restaurant on a raft on the Yarra River - totally cool!!

Australia is a wonderful place on earth!! We would come back anytime - I am totally thrilled. Now on to the next adventure - Fiji 🌸☀️🏝
