After what felt like an endless bus ride (40h) to the East Coast, we started to feel more comfortable. Normal humidity and only 32 degrees Celsius. We spent a few days in Townsville on the East Coast. To not miss out on one of the biggest tourist highlights, we booked a ferry to Magnetic Island.
Once we arrived there, we rented a moped and cruised around the island. So many beautiful beaches and nature, it was truly breathtaking.
We were able to go for a swim in a safe bay with lifeguards. The water was surprisingly warm (28 degrees Celsius!).
We then took a bus to Mission Beach, where we had a sweet tiny house right on the beach. Apart from not being able to swim (jellyfish, sharks, crocodiles), it was an absolute dream beach.
During our lunch break, we searched for an edible coconut on the beach and even found one! After half an hour of hard work with a knife and leatherman, we were rewarded with fresh coconut water and white flesh. It was a dream!
After a few days of relaxation, we headed to work in the oldest rainforest in the world (110 million years).
