In contrast to Cambodia, in Laos almost all prices are only displayed in the national currency 'Kip'. Even the local ATMs only dispense notes in the national currency. - In the exchange offices, you get 8,400 Kip for one US dollar and 9,500 Kip for one Euro. -

Depending on the bank, the ATM may limit the withdrawal amount to 1,500,000 Kip or 2,000,000 Kip. To optimize the fees, we reach this limit with each withdrawal. So we become cash millionaires for a while after each withdrawal.

(Having 40 notes of 50,000 Kip in the wallet makes it thick, but stiff and unwieldy.)
