Last week, we mainly stayed on Banks Peninsula near Christchurch, a beautiful peninsula. We did a lot of hiking and enjoyed the nature and mostly nice weather. The pictures speak for themselves.
One day, we visited Christchurch and were shocked by how the city still looks years after the strong earthquake in 2011. The city center is one big construction site and there are empty buildings everywhere that are so heavily damaged that they are no longer usable. Particularly bitter is the fact that the cathedral, the landmark of Christchurch, is a ruin and will probably have to be demolished.
We are now on our way to the New Zealand Alps and Fiordland. Looks like we'll have to wear our warm woolen underwear again 😉
