Ua Huka ....

.... is one of the northernmost Marquesas Islands, just several hundred kilometers from the equator. With 700 inhabitants, there are 1,500 mostly wild horses that can be found throughout the island.

Our first stop was the arboretum with more than 300 different trees. Apart from this part, the island is very dry and often relies on external supplies.

Next, we went to a wonderful viewpoint overlooking the sea, the small airstrip, and the colorful shimmering mountains.

Subsequently, we visited two tiny villages and were - as everywhere in the Marquesas Islands - warmly welcomed with music. During the first of these two musical greetings, Karsten actively participated 🌸

The visit to Ua Huka concluded with a fantastic lunch featuring numerous Marquesan dishes, especially sashimi (raw fish) in various forms, goat, breadfruit, mango, and more 🌸

Back on the ARANUI 5, we weighed anchor and bid farewell to the Marquesas Islands with floral offerings to the Pacific .... a few tears were unavoidable: The kindness and simplicity of the
