Valle de la Luna

Published: 09.07.2018

The Valle de la Luna (Spanish: Valley of the Moon) can be seen from two perspectives: from a viewpoint (which is located on the way from Calama to San Pedro - you must not miss the sign) and when walking in the valley itself. We saw both on Sunday, as both are included in one ticket, which is only valid for one day. It is recommended to see the sunset in Valle de la Luna.

First, you walk about 10 minutes in the valley before climbing to an elevation and waiting there until the sun goes down. It's not really a sunset with all the beautiful colors, because you only watch the sun disappear behind the opposite "hill". Only when you drive back by car can you enjoy the colorful sky.

To get to Valle de la Luna, you can rent a bicycle in San Pedro (you mainly ride on sand or "earthly" ground - don't expect a paved road), take a tourist bus, or drive with your own (rental) car.

Whole crowds of tourists want to admire the sunset, so there is no more silence.

It's amazing to see how the color of the rocks changes depending on the daylight.
