Are you already annoyed to hear from me every day? ;P I'm still recovering from my illness (slept until 7 today^^) and this weekend I'm all alone in the apartment and thought I could use the time before I'm on the move again and possibly have less time for the blog.
Today a little status update on my apartment here in Chile. We live in a 2 and a half room apartment on the third floor of a prefab building. You reach it via an outside staircase, where three stray dogs live, who guard the house well. Strangers (especially men) have no chance of getting in unnoticed ;D. It takes about 30 minutes on foot to get to the city center or you can take the bus (or a taxi that only follows certain routes)
As beautiful and green as Valdivia is around here, it has its price. At this time of year it is very damp and cold, especially in the morning. It's foggy in the morning, but usually it clears up during the day, unless it's raining constantly as it should. So far I've been very lucky and had three sunny days in a row, I wonder if that's also due to climate change? In any case, this weather also affects the apartment. The window panes are always fogged up from the inside and the house is somehow damp, for example the towels don't dry properly. That's why we have a washing machine with an integrated dryer and this morning I discovered a dehumidifier, which is now running continuously, let's see if it helps. You only get hot water if you turn on a gas heater (those who grew up in the GDR should be familiar with it). The water is scorching hot when you finally get it. In Chile, heating is usually done with wood through a fireplace. To my dismay, the friend of my landlady only brought me wet wood, so making a fire only worked so-so, except for a few burns on my hand. We also have a paraffin stove, but currently the paraffin is empty. Thank God the apartment has an oven, which I have running right now with the door open (necessity is the mother of invention). Besides, today is a relatively warm day and my cozy socks are here too :). So, you guys in Germany, when everything is melting because of the extreme heat, think of me, send a few degrees and sunny greetings. Maybe you'll get some Valdivian weather in return.
